Stephen
Babcock is a native of Ruston, Louisiana. He earned a
B.S. from Louisiana Tech University and subsequently
received his J.D. from the LSU Paul M. Herbert Law
Center. Martindale-Hubbell, the authoritative resource
for information on attorneys worldwide, has rated Mr.
Babcock “BV,” an indication of High to Very High legal
ability, an exemplary reputation and a well-established
practice, a designation only 20% of attorneys in the
country attain. Additionally, Mr. Babcock’s firm is one
of only 130 in Louisiana who has met A.M. Best’s
stringent standards for admission in the 2007 Edition of
Best's Directory of Attorneys. Mr. Babcock’s practice is
entirely comprised of litigation and appeals of
commercial, construction, and insurance matters. Mr.
Babcock also serves as a Special Assistant Attorney
General for the State of Louisiana in select litigation
involving the State. He’s also a FAA licensed pilot
which allows him to quickly access courts and clients
across the gulf coast region, greatly increasing the law
firm’s efficiency and reach.

Mr. Babcock is a
frequent lecturer on numerous legal topics including:
“Effective Motion Practice,” "Mediation and
Arbitration," “Business Organizations and Structure,”
“Construction Law,” “Experts at Summary Judgment,”
“Summary Judgment Motions in State and Federal Court,”
“Employment Law,” and even Law Office Management. A
stand-up trial attorney, he concentrates his practice in
the areas of federal and state trials and appeals,
casualty defense, construction litigation, and general
defense litigation.
Awards, Accolades &
Publications:
Mr. Babcock was a 2006
Baton Rouge Business Report Top Forty Under 40 recipient
and a 2007 Baton Rouge "People On the Move" Executive
Spotlight recipient. He was awarded the Louisiana State
Bar Association's Stephen T. Victory Award for his
article, "Experts at Summary Judgment: Examining the
Effect of Independent Fire Insurance Co. v. Sunbeam
Corp." in the Louisiana Bar Journal. He also published
“Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Law in Louisiana:
Defending the UM / Bad Faith Claim.” National Business
Institute, October, 2001.
Court Admissions:
Mr. Babcock is admitted
to practice in all state, parish, and city courts in
Louisiana. Additionally, he is also admitted in the
Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of the United
States District Courts of Louisiana; the United States
Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit; and the Supreme
Court of the United States.
Membership and
Associations:
Some of Mr. Babcock's
memberships and associations include the Louisiana
Association of Business and Industry, Associated
Builders and Contractors, Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association,
Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, Baton Rouge
Claims Association, Federal Bar Association (Litigation
and Appellate Sections), Bar Association of the Fifth
Federal Circuit, and the Defense Research Institute,
where he serves on the Insurance, Construction, and
Trial Tactics and Techniques Committees. Lastly, he is a
Louisiana Bar Foundation Fellow. As a member of
nonprofessional organizations, Mr. Babcock is a member
of The
Country Club of Louisiana,
Squire Creek Golf Club in Ruston, LA, The City Club
of Baton Rouge, and the
ΣAE
fraternity and foundation. He is President of the
LSU ΣAE
housing corporation and also serves on the LSU alumni
advisory board.
Community Involvement:
Highly involved in community
activities, Mr. Babcock serves on the Executive Board
for the Istrouma Area Council of the Boy Scouts of
America and is the 2007 Chair of the Friends of Scouting
Campaign. He has served on the board of directors of the
Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. He was Vice-Chair
of the Government Affairs Committee of the
Baton
Rouge Area Chamber, an organization which he has
served on the Board of Directors of since 2004. He has
served as Vice-president of Development and
Vice-president of Corporate Membership for Forum 35. He
also served on the Forum 35 Board of Directors and
Executive Committee for a number of years. He was the
2004 Chair of the Baton Rouge Classic Golf Tournament.
He chaired the Annual Viva il Vino! Wine Gala in 2002.
He chaired the Baton Rouge Ducks Unlimited Sponsor
Banquet in 2003, 2005 and 2006. He has served on
numerous other non profit committees across the state
since 1992 when he started his nonprofit work as the
Chair of the Louisiana Peach Festival Parade in Ruston,
LA.
